"Love bombing" is the kind of artifactual, self-interested love reserved for the weak who turn to communities that promise to take care of him or her.
Every work is a project and every project has characteristics. I don't have a style to adapt projects to, but if anything, the opposite. When I received the brief for this project, I immediately excluded the most obvious images (a heart in the shape of a bomb, which then, curiously, appears in the final version) and I focused on hands holding something. When I think of hands, my memory goes to the Venetian and Renaissance artist Giovanni Bellini. The religious iconography lent itself perfectly. However, I decided to focus on the gesture of holding something in her hands both to focus attention and to exclude the explicit religious and Catholic reference. In short, it is a Madonna but it is not necessarily a Madonna.
The second image shows the 4 evolutionary phases: 1) The photographic collage with a detail of the original Madonna and Child (1480-90) preserved at the National Gallery in London and a grenade; 2) The accurate digital reproduction (entirely repainted) with the same grenade and then the two final evolutions (3 and 4) with a heart-shaped grenade and a lily.
The painting (in the original is an oil on wood) was then "antiqued" in Photoshop with the overlay of a cracked texture.
The ultimate intent of this work is to communicate an idea of fictitious religiosity but disguised as legitimate and ennobled by history. The superficial image can be deceiving, the deeper one reveals the deceptive nature of this love, which is the central theme of the podcast.
“Love bombing” è un’opera di Roberta Lippi.
